MUNICIPAL 1985
En el campeonato de liga de 1985, seis fueron las oncenas que no clasificaron para disputar la hexagonal final de futbol, siendo en su orden alfabético: Amatitlán, Izabal, Jalapa, Municipal, Xelajú y Zacapa.
Estos también disputarían su hexagonal pero por el descenso, con esta sería la tercera liguilla por el descenso que Municipal disputaría pues en el año de 1981 y 1982 también lo hizo, y además cabe recordar que en total este equipo disputó cuatro, pues en 1993 también lo hizo.
Al finalizar las dos vueltas todos estos equipos terminaron empatados con 10 puntos, y ojo con esto en uno de los últimos encuentros, un arbitro les suplicó a los jugadores que jugáran pues daba tristeza y verguenza el espectáculo que estaban dando al no querer hecerse daño.
Y este famoso encuentro sería entre Zacapa y Municipal el cual hasta la fecha es el encuentro futbolístico que ha generado el mayor escándalo de corrupción no solo de Guatemala si no de toda Centro America, pues se llegó a comprobar que el partido había sido arreglado para que con esto no descendiera Municipal, pues con una perdida bajaba a la categoria ¨B¨.
Con el transcurrir de los días la noticia se convirtió en un verdadero polvorín, en vista de ello, la federación de futbol citó a la terna arbitral, a jugadores y entrenadores de ambos equipos, y luego de una extensa investigación, al final tanto jugadores como técnicos de ambos equipos aceptaron que el partido había sido arreglado para que Municipal no descendiera.
Incluso el representante de Municipal. ingeniero Fernando Villatora expuso que ellos aceptaban irse a jugar a la categoría ¨B¨. Ademas la Municipalidad argumento que le retiraría toda ayuda al club, hasta que no se ventilára lo acontecido.
Con todo esto se decidió por parte de la federación descender tanto a Municipal como a Zacapa por cometer actos de corrupción en esa liguilla de 1985, entonces Municipal se fue a la CDAG, para ver si estos le podían ayudar, pero la CDAG los mando por un tubo, entonces decidieron irse a la Corte de Constitucuinalidad y resulta que por arte de magia esta sin ningun derecho ni motivo unicamente le puso a los rojos una multa de Q. 2,000, y así podrían seguir jugando en la Liga Mayor.
Con el transcurrir de los almanaques deportivos, se supo que la Corte de Costitucionalidad de Justicia estaba integrada por mayoría de jueces aficionados al club Municipal, por otro lado circuló el rumor que hubo presión por parte de la Municipalidad de Guatemala para que el once escarlata no bajara a la ¨B¨.
Entonces lamentablemnete esta es una mancha muy grande para el futbol de Guatemala especialemnte para el equipo de Municipal, pues moralmente los rojos tendrían que haber descendido y esta es una cruz y verguenza eterna que nunca se le borrara al club rojo y a sus seguidores.
