A finales del siglo XIX, los hermanos Jorge y Carlos Aguirre Matheu, así como Delfino Sánchez-Latour y Esusebio Murga se embarcaron para realizar estudios en el Reino Unido. Estudiando en el colegio Saint George´s, donde vieron, aprendieron y se maravillaron de un deporte que les cautivó... el futbol, y fue así como lo jugaron.
Corría el año de 1895. Combinando estudios y deporte, se les unieron en la Gran Bretaña otros estudiantes chapines a practicar ese deporte de las patadas, y en base de lo publicado por el libro ¨Guatemala Deportiva 1902-1952¨, apreciamos que Francisco Sánchez-Latour jugó con la Academia Naval de Cadetes Ingleses de Coopers Hill, Luis Pedro Aguirre, Rafael Rodezno y Lorenzo Fonseca formaron filas con el Crystal Palace Engineers School de Londres. También estuvo Rafael Aparicio con el Brighton College de Melle de Bruselas.
Estos personajes a su regreso a Guatemala, trajeron en sus baules todos los implementos necesarios, y fue así como empezaron a practicar en los terrenos baldíos ese nuevo deporte, el cual dejo perplejos a personas de mayor edad, pues tuvieron que vestir un poco de corto ante las miradas incrédulas de las damas de la alta sociedad. El 23 de agosto de 1902 quedó fundado el primer equipo de futbol, al cual bautizaron con el nombre de Guatemala F.C. Pero para jugarlo se necesitaban 22 hombres, y entonces decidieron formar dos bandos, el blanco y el azul.
Ese encuentro se realizó donde hoy está el Mapa en Relieve en el Hipódromo del Norte. La fecha fue del 14 de septiembre, siendo el sistema de juego que los 22 jugadores tenían que soportar el trajín de los 90 minutos, pues no se permitían cambios, a excepción del portero... por sí salía lastimado.
El equipo de los blancos se presentó así:
Portero: Arsenio Conde.
Defensas: Francisco Sánchez-Latour y Jorge Aguirre.
Medios: Carlos Tinoco, Gustavo Novella y Augusto Matheu.
Delanteros: Carlos Cabarrús, Jorge Romaña, Carlos Aguirre que fue el capitán, Juan Lehnoff y Carlos Purdy.
Los azules en su orden jugaron así:
Portero: Victor Matheu.
Defensas: Luis Pedro Aguirre, Félix Schaffer.
Medios: Rodolfo Matheu, Oscar Ascoli y Joaquín Reyna.
Delanteros: Delfino Sánchez-Latour que fungió como capitán, Juan Viteri, Raúl Angulo, Francisco Cabarrús y Gordon Smith.
El árbitro del cotejo fue Walter S. Rosenthal. Actuaron como líneas: Ricardo Moreira y Rafael Prado.
Se jugó en base al reglamento del futbol de Inglaterra. Once jugaban, once terminaban. Si alguien se lesionaba, nadie entraba en su lugar.
El primer tiempo finalizó sin goles. El triunfo fue para los blancos por 3-2. Anotaron por los triunfadores Jorge Romaña, Carlos Purdy y Carlos Aguirre.
Los azules con Delfino Sánchez-Latour y Gordon Smith. No hay recuerdos fotográficos de ese primer gran acontecimiento.

Food... I ate the fried shrimp and catfish. My husband ate the catfish and oysters that were fried. The breading was more flavorful than the images on breading boxes found in HEB's spice and herb section. The breading, spice coating, and cooking are all wonderful. I adore the fried fish's golden-brown texture, cajun flavours, and seasonings. The fish was more enjoyable thanks to the thinness of the fried breading.
